S.M.A.R.T. Initiative and Alcohol Screening

(The following information is for students who receive the SMART sanction as an outcome of a Judicial Conference)

You were found responsible for violating Indiana University’s alcohol policy.  As a result, a fee of $25 is being charged to your Bursar account and you have been referred the S.M.A.R.T Initiative, for an alcohol screening. S.M.A.R.T., which stands for Successfully Managing Alcohol Responsibly & Together, is a project designed for you and other students to examine their use of alcohol in a safe, confidential, and educational way.

You have 10 days from the date of the judicial decision letter (which details the outcome of your judicial conference) to schedule your appointment to meet with Dr. Keller. Please call 856-3898 to schedule your appointment. Since the appointment schedule can fill quickly, calling to schedule your appointment immediately will help you meet the deadline to complete your alcohol screening. When you call, you will receive instructions to complete two exercises: an alcohol assessment test which you will take on-line and an alcohol assessment survey, which you will receive. You should bring both completed alcohol assessment surveys to your appointment with your facilitator.

The S.M.A.R.T. program is located on the seventh floor of EIgenmann Hall, though the specific location of your appointment will be given to you when you call to schedule your appointment.  The appointment will last approximately one hour. Your responses to the exercises, your discussion with your facilitator, and any subsequent activities derived from this discussion are confidential.

Once you have successfully completed the S.M.A.R.T. Initiative, your facilitator will notify the Office of Student Ethics and Anti-Harassment Programs, which will, in turn, notify the judicial officer who referred you to the S.M.A.R.T. Initiative.

We hope your time involved with the S.M.A.R.T. Initiative is productive for you.
